From distant and exotic countries, you always want to bring something special. Here, a traveler visited the Kingdom of Thailand, enjoying all its beauty and diversity, and now it’s time to return home. But what can you buy in Thailand to take a piece of this magical land with you? What souvenirs can you bring from Thailand?

What to Bring from Thailand: Tips from Experienced Travelers

Every tourist wants to keep something as a memory of the trip, not just a bunch of vacation photos. Moreover, it’s pleasant to bring joy to family, colleagues, and friends. In Thailand, on almost every corner (especially in major tourist centers), there are souvenir shops, since this country always attracts visitors. At the same time, the country delights with its prices: most small souvenirs cost around 30 baht, or 50 rubles. And if you buy souvenirs in bulk, you can use a trick and bargain with the Thai sellers: sometimes such haggling can reduce the purchase price by up to 70%.

Here are some standard examples of souvenir products:

    1. Well-known fridge magnets, keychains, stationery, and T-shirts with national symbols. Cheap, simple, perfect for those with many “orders” for a souvenir from Thailand. Such items cost approximately from 30 to 300 rubles.

    1. Figurines depicting elephants – sacred Thai animals (believed to bring luck), frogs (to improve financial matters), or Buddhas (for Thais – a deity, for tourists – a symbol of harmony). Also, Thailand offers many figurines of sea creatures. Unique local flavor in simple items. They can be made from different materials: wood, ceramics, metal. Wide price range – from 50 to 5000 rubles.

    3. Amulets and jewelry. From authentic pieces that let you take a piece of unique culture with you, to mass-produced items.
    4. Jewelry boxes. Many locals make wooden products and carvings, which they then sell to tourists. Plus, they provide a place to store your newly purchased amulets!

  • Alcohol. Highly valued is Thai rum, like Sang Som and other brands. If a tourist wants to throw a party upon return from vacation or give someone a souvenir in beautiful packaging, this option is suitable.

Clothing

Besides typical souvenir items labeled “Thailand,” tourists should also pay attention to other types of clothing. You can buy clothes for yourself and loved ones: Thailand produces quality clothing at affordable prices. For example, a T-shirt costs about 100 rubles, good jeans under 500, dresses around 200 rubles. Synthetic materials are not highly valued, so there is a lot of natural, comfortable, and eco-friendly clothing. Thailand has a wide size range, so anyone can find something suitable.

A good investment is natural leather products: crocodile, stingray, cobra. You can find bags, belts, wallets, shoes – in markets and stores. Thai leather items last a long time and cost less than in the West or at home.

Exquisite natural silk and silk clothing are much cheaper in Thailand than at home. Bed linen, scarves, ties, underwear, and accessories – or simply buy a piece of fabric and have something custom-made at home.

It is best to pay attention to clothing sold in markets and small shops. Locally made items are cheaper. What is sold in major shopping centers and boutiques is unlikely to be significantly cheaper, and mass-market items can also be found at home, while clothing with local flavor cannot. When buying clothes, you can also bargain: Thais are willing to negotiate and reduce prices.

How to Shop Wisely in Thailand

Remember a few simple tips:

  • Bargain – especially in markets, as sellers inflate prices expecting clueless tourists, but will negotiate with persistent shoppers;
  • Check items for authenticity and defects;
  • Do not argue with sellers or insult products – it’s highly disrespectful;
  • Don’t buy souvenirs immediately – check several markets and shops; having a tan also helps avoid inflated prices for very fair-skinned tourists.
