We decided to create our own “beach rating” of the cleanest shorelines in Pattaya, where you are less likely to encounter murky water and household debris.
The Cleanest Beaches of Pattaya
Are the beaches in Pattaya clean? The answer to this question depends on many factors.
- What do you consider a clean beach? Most Russian tourists praise Thai beaches, claiming they are clean and well-maintained, whereas Europeans often refuse to enter Pattaya’s water even up to their ankles.
- The cleanliness and clarity of the water depends on the season: during the rainy season, with waves and tides, the water inevitably becomes murky almost everywhere, and from time to time household waste is washed ashore.
- Almost every beach has its “good times” and “bad times”: for some fairly long period the water may be clean and quite clear, and then suddenly trash begins to wash ashore regularly. It happens — nothing can be done about it.

In addition, the following beaches can also be considered pretty good:
- Naklua Beach;
- Hat Chomthian Beach;
- Military Beach.
There are also clean beaches belonging to various hotels. Some are accessible only to guests, but others are open for public visits.
Naturally, the most well-maintained areas belong to five-star hotels. Some four-star hotels also have their own beachfront, and even three-star hotels compete for tourists’ attention by offering access to small private beaches.

The cleanest beaches, unanimously recognized by experts and travelers, are the beaches of Koh Larn Island. Away from city hustle and heavy tourist traffic, everything is much cleaner, cozier, and more picturesque than anywhere in Pattaya.
The Zign Hotel Beach, Wong Prachan Beach
Only the guests of nearby hotels know about this northern Pattaya beach — and that’s a pity: it offers the most beautiful view of the Sanctuary of Truth, one of the city’s most interesting attractions. The beach is small, charming, and, according to visitors, the water and sand here are quite clean.
The staff of The Zign Hotel, which owns part of the area, even created a small promenade with a mini-garden, palm trees, and flowerbeds. They also fenced off a safe swimming zone.
Pros
- Swimming Pools: Massive multi-level pool area with waterfalls — the hotel’s standout feature.
- Breakfast: Extensive buffet selection ranging from European to Asian cuisine.
- Spaciousness: Large rooms and oversized bathrooms with separate bathtubs.
- Tranquility: Located in a quiet area, far from the noise of bars and nightclubs.
- Location: Just a 10-minute walk from the famous Sanctuary of Truth.
Cons
- Beach: The sea is often murky with a rocky bottom and significant low tides.
- Wear and Tear: Rooms and appliances (like AC units) are aging and in need of renovation.
- Transport: Far from Central Pattaya; requires taxis or transfers to reach major malls.
- Slow Service: Due to the hotel’s scale, staff can be slow during check-in and peak hours.
The infrastructure is excellent: shops, restaurants, massage parlors, various water activities, and sunbed rental. At the same time, there are not too many visitors — you won’t have to share the place with crowds.
Wong amat Beach
Wongamat is the most famous of Pattaya’s northern beaches and also one of the most beautiful. No wonder: several upscale hotels are located nearby, and they thoroughly clean and maintain their territory. Prices here are rather high, but you can find cheaper options if you choose bungalows or guesthouses.
The beach is very large: about a kilometer long and more than twenty meters wide. The entrance to the sea is smooth and shallow, making it perfect for families with small children and older couples. There is no roadway or heavy traffic nearby, but there are cozy restaurants serving fresh seafood.
Pros
- Cleanest Water: Generally considered the cleanest and most swimmable beach in mainland Pattaya.
- Atmosphere: Offers a sophisticated and peaceful environment compared to the bustling city center.
- Views: Features stunning views of the Sanctuary of Truth and Ko Lan island on the horizon.
- Upscale Infrastructure: Surrounded by high-end condominiums and premium beachfront resorts.
- Dining: Home to excellent beachfront restaurants and cozy cafes within walking distance.
Cons
- Narrow Shoreline: The beach can get very narrow during high tide, leaving little room for sunbathing.
- Steep Drop-off: In some areas, the water gets deep very quickly, which may require caution with children.
- Pricing: Restaurants and services in this area tend to be more expensive than in other parts of Pattaya.
- Accessibility: Access to the beach can be tricky as many paths are blocked by private hotel territories.
- Distance: Similar to Wong Prachan, it is a bit far from the main nightlife and central shopping malls.
However, the infrastructure is not very developed: there are almost no large grocery stores or sunbed rentals, and there are few excursions or water sports. This beach is suitable for calm, lazy rest, but not for active youth recreation.
Pattaya Beach
Pattaya Beach is one of the most central beaches of the resort.
It has many advantages:
Pros
- Location: Heart of the city, close to all major shopping malls and Walking Street.
- Transport: Easiest access to public baht-buses and taxis 24/7.
- Activities: Huge variety of water sports, boat trips, and beach clubs.
- Dining: Countless restaurants and street food options for any budget nearby.
Cons
- Pollution: Water and sand are often dirty and not recommended for swimming.
- Noise: Constant noise from traffic, crowds, and nearby construction or bars.
- Crowds: Very high density of tourists and beach vendors.
- Lack of Privacy: No quiet spots; the beach is located right next to a busy road.
- low prices, a large choice of accommodation, countless entertainment spots and places to eat, and well-developed infrastructure… The beach itself is large, the water entry is gentle, and during low tide it becomes truly magical. Just search online and watch some videos — it’s mesmerizing.
But there are also downsides: due to the large number of tourists, the beach sometimes suffers from trash, the water is not always clean, and the noise and crowds do not contribute to a peaceful, relaxing holiday.
It’s worth visiting to feel the spirit of Thailand and have fun: visit a bar or strip club, rent a banana boat or kayak, dance at a nightclub — then return to a quieter area.
Cozy Beach
Cozy Beach in the Pratamnak area is not easy to reach: it is remote and almost isolated, which is why families with small children love it so much. It is calm, quiet, and even cozy here; tourists are few, and the surrounding views are incredibly picturesque.
Despite the developing infrastructure, you can still rent beach equipment, take a boat excursion around the Gulf of Siam, or visit Pattaya’s attractions: Buddha Hill and the nearby viewpoint with stunning views.
Pros
- Privacy: Small, secluded bay hidden from the main city rush.
- Views: Beautiful sunsets and a direct view of Koh Larn island.
- Vibe: Relaxed atmosphere with trendy hilltop restaurants nearby.
- Cleanliness: Generally cleaner sand and water than in Central Pattaya.
Cons
- Access: Steep stairs are required to reach the beach from the cliff.
- Tides: During high tide, the sandy area almost completely disappears.
- Infrastructure: Limited choice of shops and convenience stores on the shore.
- Isolation: Requires a taxi to get to the main city attractions.
Prices are also very low here — not only for bungalows and guesthouses but also for decent hotels. There are no big stores nearby, but street vendors offer water, snacks, and other necessities at low prices.
Beach near “Cabbages & Condoms” café and Asia Pattaya Hotel
This chain restaurant with its extravagant name, which literally translates as “Cabbages and Condoms,” surprises visitors with mannequins dressed in condom outfits and condoms brought to the table along with the check.
Pros
- Seclusion: A very quiet and private beach away from the city crowds.
- Nature: Lots of greenery and shade provided by overhanging trees.
- Ambience: Unique atmosphere with the famous themed restaurant nearby.
- Views: Excellent vantage point for watching ships and sunsets.
Cons
- Rocky Entry: Many stones in the water making swimming difficult at low tide.
- Facilities: Almost no public sunbeds or toilets directly on the sand.
- Terrain: Steep hills and stairs make the walk back to hotels tiring.
- Isolation: Very few shops or alternative dining options within walking distance.
However, you can eat tasty and cheap food here and then walk out onto a pretty lawn and a small, isolated beach. It is surrounded by greenery. At night the lights look beautiful, and there is even a cozy children’s playground with swings and trampolines.
The Asia Pattaya Hotel’s beach area is nearby: step out of the hotel and you’re already on the sand. Better not walk barefoot — the sand is covered in shells and you can get hurt. Otherwise, the beach is clean, cozy, and very uncrowded because tourists are not yet aware of it.
Phratamnak Beach
They say this beach has some of the best sunsets in all of Pattaya. Phratamnak Beach is perfect for a relaxed, contemplative holiday. It’s small — about 500 meters long — the water and sand here are quite clean, and the area itself is well-maintained, especially the zones belonging to nearby hotels. There is also a water park and an amusement park close by.
Pros
- Cleanliness: One of the best-maintained beaches in the city area.
- Atmosphere: Calm and family-friendly without noisy speedboats.
- Promenade: Wide paved path perfect for walking or jogging.
- Shade: Plenty of natural shade from trees along the coastline.
Cons
- Deep Water: The seabed drops off quite sharply near the shore.
- Limited Action: Very few water sports or active entertainment.
- Transport: No public baht-buses; relies on taxis or long walks.
- Prices: Local cafes and markets can be pricier than in Jomtien.
The infrastructure here is quite good, but you’ll still need to walk uphill toward the city: there you will find grocery stores, bars, cafés, and restaurants. Not far from the beach are also the main attractions of the resort: the viewpoint, the Big Buddha, the Chinese Temple, and the famous Pattaya Park.
There are plenty of accommodation options: expensive hotels, guesthouses, bungalows. You can also rent your own apartment with a kitchen — many tourists who come to Thailand for the winter do exactly that.
Dongtan Beach
Dongtan Beach in Pattaya has its own special features: it is located on the territory of a former military base. Don’t let that scare you — it’s actually very beautiful and picturesque here. Moreover, because of its special status, there still aren’t too many tourists, the sand and water are clean, and the waves don’t bring piles of trash to the shore, as happens on many other beaches of the resort.
Dongtan has a lot of greenery — it looks like it came straight from some tourist postcard. The territory is quite large and not crowded, there are no high waves, and the entry into the water is gentle, making it very convenient for families with children.
If you are visiting for the first time, you might get a bit lost, since you need to walk across the former base area. But the staff are always friendly to tourists and will point you in the right direction.
The infrastructure here is still not well developed — there are no large shops or restaurants, but there is a yacht club, the best in the resort. You can hire a trainer and a guide who will teach you the basics of sailing and show you the most picturesque spots around.
Jomtien Beach
Reviews of Jomtien are almost always positive and warm, as it is one of the most famous and legendary beaches of Pattaya. Like many other beaches of the resort, it stretches along a busy road — and this is its biggest downside: due to heavy traffic, accidents happen here from time to time. If you come with children, watch them carefully and hold their hand when crossing the road.
Otherwise, Jomtien is wonderful: scenic views, fairly clean water and sand, lots of shops, cafés, massage salons, and entertainment options; you can rent beach equipment and boats. You can also see the famous Koh Larn Island from the beach — the most beautiful place in Pattaya.
Pros
- Space: Very long coastline with plenty of room for everyone.
- Activities: Best spot for windsurfing, kitesurfing, and water sports.
- Promenade: Newly renovated wide sidewalk for long walks and cycling.
- Prices: More affordable food, markets, and hotels than in the North.
Cons
- Road Noise: The beach is separated from hotels by a busy, noisy road.
- Water Quality: The sea is often brownish and not very clear.
- Crowds: Can get extremely busy with locals and tourists on weekends.
- Vendors: Persistent beach sellers may disturb your relaxation.
Of course, there are many expensive hotels and apartments near Jomtien, but don’t rush to overpay: you can also find cheap guesthouses and bungalows nearby, even for just one night.
Island Beaches of Koh Larn
If you are looking for crystal-clear waters and postcard-perfect views, do not limit yourself to the mainland. Just a few kilometers away from Pattaya lies Koh Larn— the ultimate sanctuary from the city bustle, where the sea is several shades lighter and the sand is much softer.
It is the best option for a day trip if you want to swap urban landscapes for tropical exoticism. Each beach on the island has its own unique character:
| Beach | Main Advantages | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Tawaen | The largest and most developed. Offers the widest range of cafes, water sports, and shops. | Fans of vibrant vibes, comfort, and having infrastructure at hand. |
| Tien | Considered the most beautiful and “Instagrammable.” Features turquoise water and fewer boats near the shore. | Lovers of aesthetics, peaceful swimming, and stunning photography. |
| Samae | A spacious beach with high-quality service and a futuristic stingray-shaped building. | Those who appreciate comfortable relaxation and a good selection of restaurants. |
| Nual (Monkey Beach) | A cozy bay surrounded by cliffs. The main highlight is the wild monkeys that often visit tourists. | Nature enthusiasts, snorkelers, and fans of unique wildlife encounters. |
| Tonglang | A small, quiet, and slightly more secluded corner. Ideal for escaping the crowds. | Peace-seekers looking for a tranquil getaway. |
Why Koh Larn is a Must-Visit:
- Water Clarity: the difference compared to city beaches is visible to the naked eye — the sea here is genuinely clean.
- Atmosphere: despite its proximity to Pattaya, it offers a real island vibe.
- Variety: you can move from the bustling Tawaen to the quiet Nual bay in just 10 minutes.
